D.C. United players Chris Rolfe and Markus Halsti, along with team staff, took part in the Earth Day activities, which included planting flowers, weeding, laying compost and participating in other garden maintenance at Southwest Community Garden, a local green space used to educate community members in Southwest about gardening and the nutritional value of fresh produce.

In addition, Mom Made Foods, a locally-based producer of healthy and organic frozen foods for children, hosted a healthy eating cooking presentation for youth and adults. It included creating colorful and tasty fruit and veggie kabobs that featured Mom Made Foods meatballs.

The event attracted over 25 youth and adult volunteers who came out to be a part of the global celebration of the environment and healthy living.
