D.C. United and Markus Halsti have agreed to mutually terminate the Finnish midfielder’s contract.

“We thank Markus for his contributions to the club,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

The 32-year-old battled injury through preseason this year and did not appear in a game.

The Helsinki native appeared in 14 MLS matches in his first season with the Black-and-Red, starting 12.  He played in all three postseason matches (playing every minute), and played in three CONCACAF Champions League games, starting twice and captaining the side once.  Halsti also made two appearances in the Lamar Hunt  U.S Open Cup.

Halsti was signed on January 12, 2015, following seven seasons with Malmö FF in the Swedish first division.
