D.C. United to participate in DCPS Beautification Day

D.C. United has announced participation in D.C. Public Schools Beautification Day on Saturday, August 23. From 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., D.C. United players, front office staff and volunteers will come together to clean and prepare Amidon-Bowen Elementary School in Southwest Washington for the upcoming school year.

Planting flowers, landscaping, and trash pick-up are among the planned efforts, as well as the painting of a D.C. United-inspired mural, with emerging D.C. artist Kelly Towles, in an Amidon-Bowen hallway as a sign of the proud relationship between the team and the school.

“This is a wonderful event each summer that helps turn the focus toward the city’s children, their learning environment, and getting things ready for another school year,” said Victor Melara, D.C. United Director of Community Relations. “We’re excited to help bring the community together and be a part of this initiative.”

Established in 2005, D.C. Public Schools Beautification Day is the annual, official citywide “spruce up” of D.C. Public Schools and grounds. Last year, more than 4,100 volunteers participated at 105 schools across the city.
