WASHINGTON– The D.C. United Foundation will hold its annual Spring Classic youth soccer tournament on Saturday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and for the first time the event will be held inside RFK Stadium on the game field. The tournament will showcase more than 20 teams comprised of youths (ages 6-12) who are participants in the United Soccer Club 2015 spring program.
The tournament brings together young boys and girls from across the District and Maryland to RFK Stadium, exemplifying D.C. United’s commitment to the community. All participants will have recently completed a 12-week soccer program as part of the United Soccer Club, and will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of friends and family. The event features tournament-style matches and fun activities for youth and families to enjoy.

United Soccer Club enrolled close to 500 children in the program this spring, teaching participants the importance of a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and proper nutrition, as well as life skills that are beneficial on and off the field. United Soccer Club employs the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success curriculum. The program operates at 14 sites throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. All teams meet three times a week after school for 90-minute sessions led by local coaches.  The 2015 spring season also had a series of friendly matches that are a highlight for parents and furthers the participants’ sense of teamwork, commitment and healthy competition.

The United Soccer Club program is located in Wards 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and include: KIPP DC, Friendship Public charter School – Tech Prep Academy, Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, J.O. Wilson Elementary School, Barry Farm Recreation Center, Ketcham Elementary School, the FBR Branch at the ARC, Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, Harrison Recreation Center and Parkview Recreation Center, Payne Elementary School, Richard England Clubhouse #14 and Long Branch Community Center in Silver Spring, Md.
