D.C. United beat Jönköpings Södra IF 3-2 in preseason friendly

D.C. United beat Swedish top tier team Jönköpings Södra IF 3-2 on Feb. 8 in the final friendly of their first preseason camp.


United took the lead in the first half after Marcelo scored a driven shot from the outside of the 18-yard box that flew into the top left corner.

Luciano Acosta then doubled the lead with a clever finish to put the Black-and-Red up two goals going into the half.

Sébastien Le Toux scored his first goal in Black-and-Red when he tapped in the third goal in the opening stages of the second half to give United a 3-0 cushion.


Jönköpings Sodra IF scored twice in the second half to make it 3-2 but D.C. United’s defense held firm and the Swedish side were unable to find the equalizer.


The Black-and-Red were unbeaten in their opening preseason camp after also beating the U.S. Under-17 National Team 6-0 on Feb. 1 and drawing 1-1 against Philadelphia on Feb. 4.
