D.C. United are set to play their 10th match of the 2021 Major League Soccer season against CF Montreal on Wednesday, June 23 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. D.C. United will look to win their third match in a row and continue their solid defensive play as they travel south to take on a tough CF Montreal squad.

In their last match, D.C. United won 1-0 against Inter Miami CF on June 19 at Audi Field. Led by strong performances from Andy Najar and Kevin Paredes and a second half penalty kick by Ola Kamara, the Black-and-Red won their second straight match and kept their second consecutive clean sheet. United created goalscoring opportunities in the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough. Kamara had a volleyed effort in the 42nd minute go just wide after a perfect cross played in by Julian Gressel. Minutes later, Kamara had a chipped effort float just over the crossbar after making a well-timed run in behind the defense. Bill Hamid only had to make one save during the match, but it was a crucial one, as he got down low to deny a one-on-one opportunity by Miami in the 44th minute. The two sides went into halftime tied 0-0.

D.C. United had a positive start to the second half when in the 56th minute, Inter Miami midfielder Gregore received his second yellow card, allowing United to play with a man advantage for the remainder of the match. United took advantage in the 72nd minute when Brendan Hines-Ike’s headed effort from a Gressel free kick struck a Miami defender on the arm, earning the Black-and-Red a penalty kick. Ola Kamara stepped up to the spot and converted, sending the Miami keeper the wrong way and finishing into the bottom right corner. Inter Miami were unable to create any good chances to tie the match for the remainder of the second half and the Black-and-Red defense stood strong and held on to keep the clean sheet.

Bill Hamid started his 250th career match for the Black-and-Red on Saturday night. The Homegrown goalkeeper also kept his 72nd career clean sheet, the ninth most in Major League Soccer history.

D.C. United have a record of 7-8-7 against CF Montreal in club history. The most recent matchup between the two sides came on August 11, 2020 when United lost 3-2 at Audi Field. United’s two goals were scored by Donovan Pines in the ninth minute and Ola Kamara in the 33rd minute.

D.C. United against CF Montreal on Wednesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET will be broadcast on NBC Sports Washington and TeleXitos and can be streamed on www.dcunited.com.
