Story of the Match

Audi Field is set to host Cherry Blossom Night as D.C. United will go toe-to-toe with Orlando City SC in a key Eastern Conference matchup. Here's a look at what's set to bloom over the weekend as we celebrate one of the district’s signature events.

The Black-and-Red are riding a three-game unbeaten streak, with a victory at home coming against CF Montréal on March 30. And then last weekend, Troy Lesesne’s squad played the 2023 MLS Cup Champions to a 1-1 draw in Columbus at Lower.com Field. Lesesne has instilled a new high-octane pressing and style to his squad, and they'll be looking to extend their unbeaten run in front of the home crowd.

Last weekend in Columbus, Christian Benteke again proved his worth as a potent MLS goal-scorer after netting his fifth goal in five games. That said, Mateusz Klich, Ted Ku-DiPietro and Pedro Santos all have one goal apiece so far in the season and will look to add to their tallies at Audi Field.

The Lions have struggled mightily on the road this season, dropping their last three away matches and conceding a whopping 11 goals in the process. Orlando’s potent attack from 2023 has sputtered, and the backline has started to leak goals at an unusual rate.  Another away trip could prove difficult for the Florida team still looking to find their momentum early in the season.

By the Numbers

  • Benteke continues to lead the league in aerial duels (62) and headed shots (10; 23 total shots).  Also has an 83.9% aerial duel percentage.
  • Mateusz Klich is fifth in MLS in successful crosses with 13 and leads the team with 14 chances created.
  • D.C. United are ranked 8th in the league with 10.0 interceptions per match; Orlando City SC is ranked 27th with 6.0.
  • D.C. United are ranked first in the league with 14.4 successful tackles per match; Orlando ranked 22nd with 8.7.

Historic matchups

DCU have a 9-6-2 all-time regular season record against Orlando City SC with 29 goals scored and 24 goals against.
