Canouse's favorite RFK memory | 2004 MLS All-Star Game

Most of Russell Canouse's professional soccer experience has come from playing abroad prior to joining D.C. United, but one of the Lancaster, PA, native’s fondest soccer memories actually came at RFK Stadium.

Canouse was in the stands as a fan during the 2004 MLS All-Star Game when the East All-Stars defeated the West All-Stars 3-2 behind match MVP Amado Guevara’s two-goal performance.

The game was a birthday gift for Canouse, who attended the event with his father.

“It was something pretty special,” Canouse said.

Even as a child Canouse recognized the history of RFK, and when he returned as a member of the Black-and-Red, he developed even more of an appreciation for its legendary status in U.S. soccer lore.

“The tradition has been here for a while,” Canouse said. “Whether it’s the MLS All-Star games, all the D.C. United games or U.S. soccer games, it's been here awhile.”
