United have acquired $50,000 in general allocation money from Columbus Crew SC in exchange for an international roster spot through the end of 2017, which will be returned to D.C. United on Jan. 1, 2018. United have two remaining international roster spots available.

In a separate transaction, the Black-and-Red have waived Costa Rican forward José Ortiz, who has been on loan with the club since December 2016. The 25-year-old will return to CS Herediano of the Primera División de Costa Rica following the cancellation of the loan agreement between the two clubs.

“We want to thank José for his contributions to the Black-and-Red and wish him the best of luck,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said.

Ortiz made 16 appearances (seven starts) for the Black-and-Red in 2017 after being acquired on loan on Dec. 20, 2016. The San José native scored his first and only MLS goal on April 1 against the Philadelphia Union.
