2009: In July of 2009, Charlie Davies moved from Hammarby IF to FC Sochaux of the French Ligue 1, where he made his debut as a second half substitute against Bordeaux, scoring twice in a 3-2 loss on 8/15. Davies went on to play in eight matches for the club before sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on 10/13 while on National Team duty for the United States. Davies ultimately recovered from his injuries and resumed training with Sochaux in April of 2010. Prior to joining Sochaux midway through 2009, Davies scored six goals in 11 matches across all competitions for Swedish side Hammarby IF.
2008: Davies had his best season as a professional when he scored 14 goals for Hammarby, including three multiple game goals in 2008. The forward started 25 of the 27 matches he played for the Swedish Allsvenskan club.
2007: Davies decided to turn professional instead of returning for his senior season at Boston College, signing with Hammarby IF of the Swedish First Division. The New England native scored his first goal for Hammarby on 6/24 against Klaksvik in the first round of the 2007 Intertoto Cup. Davies went on to play 20 league games, scoring a hat trick and his first three league goals in the last match of the season in a win over GAIS.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
2009: Charlie Davies played in 13 games for the U.S. Men’s National Team, scoring three goals in 2009. Davies started four of five final round 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that he played in. During the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa, he played in four of the five matches, including the final against Brazil. On 8/12, Davies became only the fourth U.S. player to score at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City in the team’s World Cup qualifying loss to Mexico. He also appeared in two games during the United States’ run to the Gold Cup final, scoring against Grenada on 7/6 in Seattle.
2008: On 10/15, Davies scored his first senior international goal in the United States’ 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago during the third round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. As part of the United States U-23 team that played in the Beijing Olympics, Davies made one appearance in the team’s last match against Nigeria.
2007: During a friendly with China, Davies earned his first cap on 6/2 by coming on as a substitute in a 4-1 victory in San Jose, Calif. Davies was also a part of the 2007 Copa America roster in Venezuela, where he was a teammate of D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen.
2005: As a member of the United States Under 20 roster, Davies made 10 appearances for his country and was a member of the team that finished atop Group A during qualifying for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. Though Davies did not make the final roster for the full competition, he was included on the Milk Cup squad. Davies helped lead the United States to its first Milk Cup title, where he scored a hat trick in the final against Northern Ireland. For his efforts, Davies received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Award.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
2006: As a junior, Davies started 16 games for Boston College. He scored 15 goals and had six assists, setting school records for points and goals. During the season, he had five multiple goal games including one hat trick. Davies led all ACC scorers in points per game, goals per game, and game-winning goals, as well as being the nation’s leader in points per game (2.25) and being second in goals per game (.94). He was named one of three finalists for the Hermann Trophy, earning NSCAA All-America First Team honors. Davies was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and he was also selected as the nation’s premier forward by Soccer America. Davies finished his college career with 24 goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances. During his college years, Davies also played in the USL Premier Development League with the Westchester Flames, scoring six goals in nine games.
2005: Davies started and played in the season opener on 9/1 against Fairleigh Dickinson, where he had one assist before receiving a season-ending injury in the first half.
2004: As a freshman, Davies started all 20 games for Boston College. He scored a team-high nine goals, five of them being game-winning strikes to accompany his four assists. He was selected to the Soccer America and College Soccer News Freshman All-America teams, and he was named Big East Rookie of the Year. Davies was also named to the NSCAA All-New-England First Team.
