D.C. United have waived Italian midfielder Andrea Mancini, who will join the New York Cosmos. The 24-year-old played in one Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match, replacing Miguel Aguilar in the 66th minute in United’s penalty-shootout loss to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He did not appear in a league match this season.
“We thank Andrea for his service and wish him good luck in his future endeavors,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said.
Signed as a Discovery Signing in a free transfer on March 27, 2016, Mancini trained with the Black-and-Red in preseason and played in two friendly matches.
