The sun was shining, and the kids at Raymond Elementary School were ready to take on the day! Far from your average field day, the D.C. United Foundation teamed up with teachers, students, and a great lineup of community partners that included DC Parks and Recreation, Black Star Soccer, DC SCORES and Future Resource Learning to help celebrate the end of the school year in style.
The day kicked off with activity stations spread across the fields by the Raymond Recreation Center. Students from grades K-5 rotated with their classes, working together through obstacle courses, cheering one another on, and showing off their teamwork as they competed at each of the stations. Students also got the chance to participate in a special Black Star Soccer Clinic that included skills, drills, soccer games, and a scrimmage. Afterwards, each student received a brand-new soccer ball and water bottle to complement their new kit.
And when it was time for a break, Don Churro and Maracas Pops delivered sweet treats. Students were able to cool off with a delicious paleta (also known as an ice pop) topped with chamoy and tajin and to indulge in a fresh churro with dulce de leche or chocolate toppings.
A day filled with joy and smiles, the students made the most of every moment of the day filled with soccer, community, play and fun. More than a celebration, this D.C. United Foundation Community Day serves as a reminder of all the good that is possible when we come together. Here's to a great school year and partnership, Raymond!
