Match Preview - D.C. United vs. FC Dallas on Saturday, April 4, 2026

D.C. United returns to Audi Field this Saturday, April 4th for a matchup against FC Dallas in the club’s sixth match of the 2026 MLS season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Washington, D.C. and the Black-and-Red enter the weekend with a 2-2-1 record with seven points through five matches.  Head Coach René Weiler will look to build on the solid defensive start to the campaign against a Dallas side that has shown its attacking quality through the opening month of the season.   

Last Saturday’s match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was one that tested the Black-and-Red defense early and often. D.C. United earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Atlanta United FC and recorded the club’s second clean sheet of the season. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson made two important saves in the first half to keep the match level, while the back line remained organized and disciplined under pressure throughout the night. D.C. United pushed hard in the final minutes and nearly found a late winner, with midfielder Caden Clark striking the right post in the 83rd minute and midfielder Brandon Servania hitting the crossbar from a distance four minutes later. That result lifted the Black-and-Red into sixth place in the Eastern Conference and highlighted the defensive organization that has quickly become a defining trait of René Weiler’s side.  

The defensive performances against Philadelphia, Chicago, and Atlanta are early indicators of the mentality Weiler has instilled into this group. D.C. United has conceded just four goals through five matches this season and will look to continue that trend against a Dallas offense that has scored 10 goals in their first five matches. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson will look to keep the Western Conference side at bay, after recording his second clean sheet last match against Atlanta United.  Midfielders Peltola and Servania have helped provide balance and structure in central midfield, while Forward Tai Baribo has led the attack with three goals in five appearances. The club continues to show attacking promise through the movement and pace of Baribo, Peglow, Pirani, and Clark.   

FC Dallas heads into Saturday’s matchup with a 2-1-2 record, sitting eighth in the Western Conference on eight points. Most recently, they earned a 4-3 victory over Houston Dynamo FC with a brace from forward Logan Farrington. Dallas has been led by forward Petar Musa, who has six goals in five appearances this season. Farrington has also made an early impact with five goal contributions (three goals and two assists), while forward Joaquín Valiente has added two assists in four appearances. Dallas has shown the ability to create chances in volume and will present one of the most dangerous attacking tests D.C. United has faced so far this season.   

The Black-and-Red will look to stay compact defensively and take advantage of opportunities in transition at Audi Field. The team has shown resilience through the opening stretch of the season, and Saturday presents another strong challenge against one of the more productive attacking teams in MLS. With a win at home, D.C. United will continue to build momentum and strengthen its position in the Eastern Conference standings.

In their most recent meeting on August 24, 2024, FC Dallas defeated D.C. United 4-3 at Audi Field in a high-scoring affair. The Black-and-Red remained dangerous in attack throughout the night and continued to push forward across both halves, but Dallas was able to edge the contest by a single goal. Forward Christian Benteke kicked the game off by scoring in the second minute of the match, but Dallas responded strongly by scoring four. Defender David Schnegg was able to pull one back in the 42nd minute to make it a 4-2 game going into halftime. Midfielder Jared Stroud added a goal in the 48th minute mark to make it 4-3. Saturday marks the first meeting between the two clubs in the 2026 MLS regular season as D.C. United looks to earn an important result at home under Head Coach René Weiler.
