Washington, D.C. (May 4, 2009) - Major League Soccer announced today D.C. Unitedās captain Jaime Moreno has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 7. In Saturdayās 2-1 win over FC Dallas, the Bolivian scored both of Unitedās goals as D.C. jumped to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1-3 record (12 pts.). This is Morenoās seventh MLS Player of the Week award and first since Week 9 in 2006 when he scored two goals in a 3-1 road victory over the Kansas City Wizards.
The Leagueās all-time leading goal-scorer (124) has two goals and an assist in four games played this season. Prior to Saturdayās match, Moreno was honored for being the first player in the MLS to score 100 goals and tally 100 assists. He joined the ā100-100 clubā after recording an assist in Unitedās 1-1 tie against New England April 17. Moreno also has 74 career appearances and 11 goals for the Bolivia national team.
D.C. United is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and stands tied for first place in Major League Soccerās Eastern Conference standings. United is unbeaten at home so far this season and will look to keep that streak going next Saturday as they host Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. The club will first turn its attention to Kansas City in a mid-week contest set for May 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
