Dwayne De Rosario called-up to Canada National Team

Dwayne De Rosario

The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Round 2 matches of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying. D.C. United’s Dwayne De Rosario has been named to the 19-man roster and will join the Canadian team prior to its match against St. Lucia in Gros Islet on October 7. The team will then travel to Toronto to take on Puerto Rico at BMO Field on October 11.

De Rosario was recently named MLS Player of the Week for Week 28, after recording the fastest hat trick in MLS history against Real Salt Lake on September 24 when he scored three goals in the game’s first 31 minutes. It was the Canadian playmaker’s third Player of the Week Award in 2011, having earned the honor in back-to-back weeks in early August for Weeks 20 and 21. In addition to leading the 2011 Budweiser Golden Boot race with 13 goals, De Rosario also ranks fourth in MLS with 11 assists.

In addition to his MLS records, the United playmaker is also Canada’s current leading scorer with 18 goals and is two goals away from becoming the team’s all-time leading scorer. In his last appearance for the Canadian National Team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches in September, De Rosario scored a goal in the Canadians’ 4-1 victory over St. Lucia and participated in the 3-0 win against Puerto Rico. Canada currently sits atop CONCACAF’s Group D with six points.
