Post-Match Recap: D.C. United Fall 1-0 to New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium

D.C. United fell 1-0 to the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, dropping to 2-4-1 on the 2026 MLS season. The Black-and-Red generated the better of the chances on the night, finishing with a 17-11 edge in total shots, but were unable to find a breakthrough against New England goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Head Coach René Weiler made one change to the starting XI from last week's loss to FC Dallas, with defender Kye Rowles returning to the lineup following international duty with Australia. D.C. United were without leading scorer forward Tai Baribo due to injury. The Black-and-Red lined up in a 4-4-2, with forwards Jackson Hopkins and Gabriel Pirani occupying the forward positions, and midfielders João Peglow and Aaron Herrera on the flanks of a midfield anchored by midfielder Matti Peltola ands Brandon Servania. The back four consisted of defenders Silvan Hefti, Captain Lucas Bartlett, Kye Rowles, and Keisuke Kurokawa in front of goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

D.C. United nearly opened the scoring in the third minute when Peltola's right-footed effort struck the left post. New England broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by forward Dor Turgeman, to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Weiler made his first change in the 60th minute, introducing forward Louis Munteanu for Pirani as D.C. United pushed for an equalizer. Midfielder Gavin Turner came on for Servania in the 74th minute, while defender Jacob Murrell and midfielder Caden Clark entered in the 87th minute for Bartlett and Hopkins respectively. The Black-and-Red pressed forward to the final whistle and finished with 17 shots to New England's 11, but Turner and the Revolution backline held firm to preserve the clean sheet.

Peglow won 11 ground duels and recorded 10 tackles across 90 minutes. Rowles recorded six recoveries and won 100% of his ground duels in his first appearance back from international duty. Peltola made his seventh consecutive start of the season, recording seven passes into the final third and seven recoveries across 90 minutes. Herrera made his first start for the Black-and-Red in 2026, winning three ground duels with 100% accuracy on his long balls.

D.C. United are now 2-4-1 with seven points in the Eastern Conference and hold a 37-38-16 all-time record against the New England Revolution in regular season play, including an 11-25-9 mark on the road. The Black-and-Red return to Audi Field on Wednesday, April 15 to host One Knoxville SC in the Round of 32 of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
