D.C. United Signs Swiss Defender Silvan Hefti from Hamburger SVĀ
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 29, 2026) - D.C. United has signed Swiss defender Silvan Hefti from Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).Ā Ā The Black-and-Red has signed Hefti to a guaranteed contract through June 2027 with an option for the club to extend for the 2027-28 season. Hefti will occupy an international roster spot.Ā

Hefti, 28,Ā spent theĀ 2024-25Ā season withĀ GermanĀ sideĀ Hamburger SV,Ā appearing in 20 matchesĀ (12Ā starts)Ā andĀ securingĀ five clean sheetsĀ whileĀ adding one goalĀ andĀ one assistĀ acrossĀ 1,092 minutesĀ played.Ā Ā The defenderĀ recorded 39 tackles and won 55.6% of hisĀ duels,Ā helping Hamburger SV to aĀ 2ndĀ place finishĀ in the 2. BundesligaĀ andĀ earnĀ promotion to the Bundesliga.Ā Ā Ā
Prior toĀ his time in Germany, Hefti spentĀ threeĀ seasons with GenoaĀ CFCĀ inĀ ItalyāsĀ Serie AĀ after signing with theĀ clubĀ on Jan. 3, 2022.Ā Ā HeĀ made his debutĀ three daysĀ later, appearing in a 1-1 league draw against US Sassuolo onĀ Jan. 6,Ā 2022.Ā Ā The defender wentĀ on a short loan spellĀ withĀ French first division sideĀ Montpelier HSCĀ at the start of 2024 season.Ā ThereĀ he appeared in 14 matchesĀ (11 starts), registeringĀ one assistĀ acrossĀ 983 minutesĀ played before returning to GenoaĀ in June.Ā Ā HeftiĀ made 53 appearances across all competitionsĀ for Genoa, scoring one goal andĀ addingĀ one assist.Ā
