WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jul. 31, 2026) - D.C. United has signed 16-year-old Academy midfielder Kamil Castillo as a Homegrown Player through the 2030 with an option for June 2031. Castillo becomes the 24th Homegrown signing in club history and joins Jackson Hopkins, Gavin Turner, Oscar Avilez, and Grant Leveille on the list of Homegrown Players on the current roster.

"Kamil's development through the Academy reflects the standard he has held himself to at every level. He has shown consistent quality across multiple age groups and has earned this opportunity through his performances. He possesses significant long-term potential, and our focus now is on providing the environment, guidance, and support that allows him to continue developing within the club." Dr. Erkut Sogut, D.C. Castillo joined the D.C. United Academy in January 2024 from Achilles FC and has since progressed through multiple levels of the Academy. This past season, the midfielder recorded six goals and seven assists across 33 total appearances for the Black-and-Red, featuring at the U-18 level as well as in MLS NEXT Flex and Pro Pathway competition. A right-footed central midfielder listed at 5-foot-11, Castillo is known for his athleticism, high work rate, and ability to cover ground across the field, who can also feature in wider attacking roles.

“Kamil has developed within our Academy system for many years, and he is a true representation of the DMV’s talent pool. His work rate, competitive character and his creative ability on the ball are what drive him.  Those qualities, combined with his willingness to learn, put him in a strong position to succeed at the next level." Kevin Flanagan, D.C. United Director of Academy and Player Development

Castillo holds dual Dominican and American citizenship and has represented both nations at the youth international level. He debuted for the Dominican Republic U-17 National Team in February 2026 and recorded two goals and three assists in three appearances at 2026 Concacaf U-17 World Cup qualifying.  He started in the side's final group stage match against the United States, a 1-1 draw in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The midfielder has also represented the Dominican Republic at the Concacaf U-15 Championship. Castillo has additionally been called into United States youth national team camps at the U-14 and U-16 levels, most recently featuring in a U-16 National Team camp in Florida this past March.

This signing represents another significant milestone for the D.C. United Academy, underscoring the club's continued commitment to identifying and developing local talent through its comprehensive Pathway to Pro Model. The D.C.
