JUAN PABLO BEGAZO

GOALKEEPING COACH

Juan Pablo joined D.C. United Academy in 2019 and serves as the Goalkeeping Coach and Academy Scout. Originally from Camana, Peru, he started his career in 2006 as a professional goalkeeper for Club FBC Melgar, after being drafted from the Alianza Lima Academy in Peru. He debuted for his club at the age of 18 in 2007, qualified for the “Copa Sudamericana 2013”, and won the championship of “Torneo de promoción y Reserva profesional'' in 2014. After 8 seasons with Club FBC Melgar he joined Club UTC de Cajamarca as a professional goalkeeper in 2017 where he qualified for the “ Copa Sudamericana.”

Juan Pablo’s coaching experience includes his tenure with Arlington Soccer Association, where he was the Director of Goalkeeping for the Boys Academy after which he served as the Goalkeeping Coach for Loudoun United FC in the USL, where he oversaw the pro debut of an Academy Goalkeeper. He has played a pivotal role in developing multiple players who have gone on to win numerous accolades such as the U15 USYS National Championship, the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper of the year, USYS Regional Champion, and the USYS State Champion. His U15 team qualified for the MLS Next Playoffs and made it as far as the quarterfinals of the competition in 2021. Juan Pablo speaks Spanish and English.

Begazo currently carries a “C” license from the Peruvian Soccer Federation, a certification in Strength Conditioning for Soccer from Argentina and a Goalkeeper training Certificate from RAFA-PANA.
