D.C. United Home Opener Announced

IMAGE: Home Opener Edited

D.C. United will play their home opener of the 2016 MLS regular season Sunday, March 20 at 5 pm ET on ESPN 2 against the Colorado Rapids.

United travel to Los Angeles for their first game of the season against the Galaxy on Sunday, March 6, which will air on Unimas at 10 pm ET.  The Black-and-Red’s second match of the season is in Foxborough against the New England Revolution in their home opener the following Saturday, March 12.

D.C. United are 9-7-4 lifetime in home openers. Last season, they won the first game of the 2015 campaign against the Montreal Impact 1-0.  In 1996, the Black-and-Red lost in their first MLS match at RFK Stadium to the Galaxy on April 20.  The biggest margin of victory on a home opener match came in 2008, when United beat Toronto FC 4-1 on April 5.

United have never hosted the Rapids on opening day, but the two original MLS teams have played each other 40 times over the past 20 seasons.  The Black-and-Red currently hold the upper hand; they’ve won 18 matches, lost 13 and drew 9 times.

2016 single game tickets will go on sale Thursday, February 18 at 10 am ET.  D.C. United fans can secure the best seating locations by joining the Black-and-Red family in 2016 for as low as $20 per match.
