Nick DeLeon re-signs with D.C. United

WASHINGTON (Nov. 12, 2015) – Midfielder Nick DeLeon has agreed to a contract extension with D.C. United. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. DeLeon finished 2015 with two goals and matched his career-high with five assists in 29 regular season appearances (25 starts). In four seasons, DeLeon has 12 goals and 15 assists in 114 appearances (104 starts).

“Nick is a powerful, dynamic and versatile player, and we are excited that he will continue to be part of D.C. United,” said D.C. United General Manager and Vice President of Soccer Operations Dave Kasper. "He has been a steady contributor on both sides of the ball from the moment we drafted him. He’s had big performances and scored goals on the biggest stages, and we look forward to the role he’ll play as we build for the 2016 season."

DeLeon played a full 90 minutes in each of D.C. United’s three matches in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs and had an assist on the team’s game-winning goal against New England in the Knockout Round.  On Sept. 19 vs. Columbus Crew SC, he made his 100th career MLS start.

DeLeon made his mark immediately upon being selected out of Louisville in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Starting with a goal in his MLS debut and two in his first three games, he finished with a D.C. United rookie record of six goals in addition to four assists and became the team’s fourth consecutive MLS Rookie of the Year finalist in 2012. He also scored twice in the MLS Cup Playoffs, including the game-winning goal to clinch D.C. United’s Eastern Conference Semifinals victory over the New York Red Bulls. In 2013, DeLeon scored the D.C. United goal of the year, and in 2014, he finished with two goals and established his career-high with five assists in a career-high 31 appearances (30 starts).
