STEPHEN KAPLAN

CO-CHAIRMAN

Stephen Kaplan is a Co-Founder of Oaktree Capital Group LLC (NYSE OAK) a global alternative investment management firm. He currently serves as an Advisory Partner at Oaktree having retired from day to day activities in 2016 to pursue investments in sports and entertainment. He is currently the Chairman of Nalpak Capital, LLC, the family office he created with his wife Jean. 

In addition to D.C. United, Mr. Kaplan serves as Co-Managing Partner of Swansea City Football Club. He is an owner of multiple other sports franchises and sports related investments, and is a founding owner of the esports organization, Immortals. He also serves on Major League Soccer's Board of Governors. Mr. Kaplan was previously the Co-Chairman of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Mr. Kaplan joined Oaktree at its inception in 1995, having previously served as a managing director of Trust Company of the West. Prior to joining TCW in 1993, he was a partner with the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. 

Mr. Kaplan has served on numerous public and private boards during his career and presently serves on the board of Townsquare Media, Inc. (NYSE TSQ). 

In addition, he currently serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Foundation and the New York University School of Law Foundation.

Mr. Kaplan graduated with a B.S. degree in political science summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
