D.C. United Announces Black History Month Initiatives

BLM - Black history month 2021

D.C. United announced today that the club will use their platform to focus on key initiates throughout February in honor of Black History Month. The clubā€™s efforts will focus on three specific areas:

  1. Educating our following on important historical events and moments of the Black community.
  2. Celebrating the work and achievements of members of the local Black community both locally and nationally.
  3. Continuing to Communicate on the critical issues that face our society as we seek to do our part in creating a more equal and equitable world.

Educate: D.C. United will create an educational page on our club website, which will highlight notable members of the Black community from history and their stories, along with books and other recommended educational materials.

Celebrate: D.C. United will highlight local Black artists and their work throughout the course of the month. These spotlights will occur weekly across the clubā€™s social media properties and will feature a link to learn more about each artist.

Communicate: D.C. United will continue the important dialogue about racial equality that the club started in June 2020 with their Critical Conversation series. The live and unfiltered dialogue will feature local leaders from the Black community as well as representation from the club.
