Preview - Nashville

D.C. United (2-5-5, 11 pts.) travel to Nissan Stadium for the first MLS Regular Season match in club history against Major League Soccer expansion side, Nashville SC, on Wednesday, September 23 at 8:30 p.m. EST.

In their last match, the Black-and-Red came from behind in dramatic fashion for the second time this year against Toronto FC, drawing 2-2, thanks to a late equalizer from Homegrown midfielder, Griffin Yow.

United got off to a quick start when Ola Kamara tackled the ball away from a Toronto center back at midfield before running in on goal and slotting home the opener in the fifth minute. The Black-and-Red kept up the pressure and nearly scored a second shortly after when Yamil Asad hit a powerful volley from just inside the 18 that thundered off the bottom side of the crossbar in the 11th minute. Toronto leveled the score in the 17th minute as Alejandro Pozuelo picked up a loose ball in the box and found the bottom corner. The sides went into halftime tied 1-1.

Homegrown midfielder, Griffin Yow, entered the match at the start of the second half for his fifth appearance of the season to replace Mohammed Abu, who went down injured on the stroke of halftime. The visitors took the lead in the 60th minute when Ayo Akinola headed home a Pablo Piatti cross. United fought back in chase of an equalizer and their determination was rewarded in the 88th minute when Griffin Yow emphatically volleyed home his first career league goal from 12 yards out. Riding their momentum, United nearly completed the comeback for all three points deep into stoppage time, as a lofted diagonal ball into the box found Yow, who squared it for Sorga, only to see his first-time effort tipped over the bar.

Despite the pressure from the Black-and-Red in the closing moments, the match ended 2-2 with United featuring five Homegrown players on the field. The Black-and-Red fought back to earn a well-deserved point against a tough Toronto FC side.
