On Sunday night, D.C. United hosted the Seattle Sounders for one of their final home matches of the regular season at Audi Field. Due to other results around the league, the Black-and-Red came into the night having already clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot. But that didnā€™t impact their motivation to win as the Black-and-Red are still vying for a home playoff match in the Nation's Capital.

It didnā€™t take long for D.C. United to grab the lead. In the 14th minute, the Black-and-Red had the ball in and around the 18-yard box. After passing the ball around, Lucas RodrĆguez settled the ball at his feet and slipped a shot into the corner. D.C. United took a 1-0 lead.

At the start of the second half, D.C. United added to their tally. The Black-and-Red drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box. Wayne Rooney sent in a low shot that Frederic Brilliant finished off for a goal. In the 54th minute, D.C. United led 2-0.

Overall, D.C. United dominated the Seattle Sounders. While the Sounders had a few strings of good possession and a couple of shots on goal, they werenā€™t able to finish off their chances. Bill Hamid came in with a few critical saves to keep his third consecutive clean sheet and his 12th shutout this season.

The clean sheet victory was the third straight for D.C. United and 12th on the season. Bill Hamid had a fantastic night in net as the Homegrown goalkeeper made four saves bringing his season save total to 122 on the year (Second in the league currently).

With this 2-0 win and three points, D.C. United will finish the week in the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference. With a playoff spot clinched, they will hit the road next weekend to face the New York Red Bulls before returning home for the final match of the season against FC Cincinnati on Sunday, October 6th.
