Tomorrow, D.C. United open their new state-of-the-art home, Audi Field, following 502 days of construction on the site in Southwest D.C. Take a look at the numbers behind the stadium, and click here to reserve your spot for the inaugural season.
Audi Field is just 1.3 miles from National Mall, sitting in an ideal setting in Southwest D.C., one of the hottest neighborhoods in the District. With sweeping views of the pitch, the Southwest neighborhood, the Washington Monument, and the Capitol, Audi Field is located right in the heart of the city.
The stadium has a capacity of 20,000, and includes 1,500 supporters seats, 500 field-level seats, 1,500 club seats, and 31 luxury suites.
From the closest seats to the pitch, fans will be located just eight feet away from the on-field action. The intimate, steep design of Audi Field will ensure all attendees, from the first row to the final row, have great sight lines on game day.
Speaking of intimate, Audi Field has a seating incline of 35 degrees on three sides of the pitch, giving it one of the steepest seating grades in the league. Fans will feel right on top of the action thanks to the incline and uninterrupted views from every seat in the house.
D.C. United's new home is the 19th soccer-specific stadium, and 16th soccer-specific stadium in use, in the United States. As the sport and the league continue to grow, established and new teams have continued to push toward soccer-specific stadiums instead of sharing multi-purpose stadiums with nearby football or baseball teams. D.C. United have long awaited their own soccer-specific stadium in the city after playing in RFK since 1996.
Bring your appetite to Audi Field. The stadium features 14 different food vendor options, with menus curated by famed D.C. chef José Andrés and culinary partner Levy. With items ranging from arepas to chicken biscuits, and pupusas to half smokes, fans will have plenty of delicious fare to choose from on matchdays.
Audi Field features 334 LED sports lights, one of numerous elements that helped the stadium earn LEED Gold certification for being an environmentally-friendly building. The LED lights come on instantly, can do colored light shows, and are more durable than traditional stadium lights.
Including Saturday's first-ever match, D.C. united will play 15 games at Audi Field in the inaugural season between July 14 and October 21. The extended homestand will give the Black-and-Red an invaluable opportunity to climb the table in their own fortress and compete for a late-season playoff push. There are still 45 points up for grabs at Audi Field, and United are prepared to fight for as many as possible over the next three months.
