French defender Frédéric Brillant obtained his Green Card that grants him permanent residence in the United States. Brillant will no longer occupy an international roster spot for the Black-and-Red.

United acquired the 32-year-old from New York City F.C. on Dec. 10, 2017 to help reinforce the United backline. This season, Brillant has started and played every minute for the Black-and-Red. The 6-foot-3-inch defender is an aerial presence on both ends of the field for United and he is tied for third most clearances in MLS this year (43). He also recorded his first assist for the Black-and-Red when his headed pass led to a 97th-minute equalizer from Luciano Acosta against Houston on March 17, 2018.

The former New York City F.C. player has a natural aptitude for defending, and his vision and ability to read dangerous situations helped him consistently quell opposition’s build up play. Brillant led NYC in clearances (205) and interceptions (90) in 2016 to pave the way to the team finishing second in the Eastern Conference that year.
