Ulises Segura called up to Costa Rican National Team

D.C. United midfielder Ulises Segura has been called up to the Costa Rican Men’s National Team for their upcoming international friendly against Scotland on March 23 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Segura will look to earn his seventh cap for Los Ticos. In total, Segura has made six appearances, including one start, for the Costa Rican National Team. He made his international debut for Los Ticos in a 3-0 win over Belize on Jan. 15, 2017.


His most recent cap came on Nov. 14, 2017, when he was subbed on in the 67th minute of an international friendly against Hungary and current United teammate Zoltán Stieber.


Before arriving in D.C., Segura started his professional career in his native Costa Rica where he made his debut with Deportivo Saprissa on Jan. 19, 2014, in a 2-2 draw with AD Carmelita. He went on to score 14 goals and record four assists in 124 appearances for the club from 2014-2018. He spent the 2014-2015 season with CS Uruguay de Coronado, scoring three goals and recording an assist in 39 appearances.


Segura signed with the Black-and-Red on a permanent transfer on Dec. 21, 2017. He made his MLS debut for United on Mar. 3, 2017, as a starter in the regular season opener against Orlando City SC. Segura has appeared in all three United games this season.
