United have acquired Deportivo Saprissa’s Costa Rican defender Joseph Mora on a permanent transfer pending receipt of his P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
The 25-year-old scored one goal and recorded two assists in 83 appearances in all competitions for Deportivo Saprissa in the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División (2014/2015 - 2017/2018). Mora helped Deportivo Saprissa win two Costa Rican Invierno Championships in the 2015/2016 (14 appearances) and 2016/2017 (38 appearances) seasons.
“We are very pleased to have finalized a permanent transfer for Joseph,” Dave Kasper, United general manager, said. "He is a talented young left back who possesses very good technical and physical qualities, and he is coming to us with a great deal of first team and international experience. We look forward to immediately integrating Joseph into our team."
Mora spent his youth career in the L.D. Alajuelense academy and was signed by Costa Rican top tier side Guadalupe FC on July 1, 2011. He made his professional debut for Guadalupe FC on April 8, 2012 in a 4-2 loss against future club, Deportivo Saprissa. The defender went on to score one goal and record an assist in 61 appearances for Guadalupe FC over three seasons (2011/2012, 2013/2014, 2014/2015). Mora also spent the 2012/2013 season with CS Uruguay de Coronado and recorded one assist in 11 appearances.
Mora joins former teammate Ulises Segura who was signed from Deportivo Saprissa on Dec. 21, 2017. The pair featured in 57 matches together for Saprissa stretching from 2015 to 2017. The two played their first game together in a 2-0 loss to CS Herediano on Dec. 18, 2015 in the Primera División Invierno playoff. Mora and Segura both featured in the team that won the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 Costa Rican Invierno Championships.
Mora played in the Costa Rican Youth National Team and most recently appeared in the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship as an Under-23 player.
