United named 2017 finalist for U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Awards

For the second consecutive year, D.C. United have been chosen among the top 24 organizations as a finalist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Awards in the category of Best Community Improvement in recognition of the club's work with their official charitable partner, DC SCORES.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Awards showcase how businesses make the world a better place. Over the past 18 years, some of the most accomplished business initiatives have gained positive exposure through the Citizens Awards. Companies and chambers of commerce from around the globe compete for the Citizens, making them one of the most coveted opportunities in corporate citizenship.

“We are proud that D.C. United have been chosen as a finalist for the 2017 Citizens Award,” Victor Melara, United director of community relations, said. “We're also very grateful to our partner, DC SCORES, who do tremendous work in our community helping thousands of kids succeed on the playing field, in the classroom and in life.”

In 2015, D.C. United began a long-term partnership establishing DC SCORES as the official community partner of the Black-and-Red. Through the partnership, both organizations have worked to help improve low-income children’s physical fitness and confidence through self-expression, increasing school engagement, and deepening their connections to their community. The partnership has helped provide 2,500 low-income children in D.C. with a safe place for physical activity and academic development.

The winners of the 2017 Citizens Awards will be announced on November 15 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. To learn more about the awards program, click here.
