Ian Harkes nominated for 2017 ESPYS Award

United center midfielder and Homegrown Player Ian Harkes is a 2017 ESPYS Nominee.  The 22-year-old has been nominated for Best Male College Athlete alongside DeShaun Watson, Frank Mason, Matt Rambo and Zain Retherford. 


Harkes, who became the Black-and-Red's ninth Homegrown signing on Jan. 23, 2017, won the MAC Hermann Trophy Award as the best collegiate soccer player last season after leading Wake Forest to the national championship game.  In four years, Harkes made 82 appearances for the Deamon Deacons, scoring nine goals and adding 18 assists.  En route to the 2016 national championship (which they lost to Stanford), Harkes scored four game-winning goals for Wake Forest.


Harkes has made 13 appearances in his first MLS season and scored his first D.C. United goal in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open cup against Christos F.C.
