Reston, Va., and WASHINGTON (Sept. 8, 2015) – D.C. United and Leidos have partnered to present the second annual Armed Forces Week, held September 14-19 at locations throughout the National Capital Region. The series of events will honor the proud men, women and families of the U.S. Armed Forces for their dedication and service to the country. The week will culminate in Armed Forces Night at D.C. United’s match versus Columbus Crew SC at RFK Stadium on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. 


“We are excited again this year for Armed Forces Week and the chance for our staff and players to connect directly with those who serve and protect our country every day,” said D.C. United Chief Operating Officer Tom Hunt. “Through our relationship with our presenting partner, Leidos, we have a week full of important events scheduled, and we look forward to having many Armed Forces members, veterans and their families on hand as the team takes on Columbus on Sept. 19.”

The following is the schedule of Armed Forces Week events:


Event: Armed Forces Clinic 
Date: Monday, September 14. 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Location: Ft. Meade, Md.
Details: D.C. United players will lead a soccer clinic for children of Armed Forces members.


Event: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Visit
Date: Tuesday, September 15. 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: USO Warrior and Family Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Washington, D.C. 
Details: D.C. United players and Leidos employees will host a lunch and outdoor activities.  


Event: Armed Forces Retirement Home Visit
Date: Wednesday, September 16. 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Location: Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C.
Details: D.C. United players and Leidos employees will participate in games and host a dinner for residents. 


Event: D.C. United Open Practice 
Date: Thursday, September 17, 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. 
Location: RFK Stadium Practice Facility 
Details: Members of the Armed Forces and veterans are invited to watch practice and meet the players. 


Event: Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Anniversary Cards
Date: Friday, September 18, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Location: Leidos Headquarters, 11955 Freedom Drive, Reston, VA 20190
Details: Leidos employees, D.C. United staff members and non-dressing players will create anniversary card packages for survivors.


Event: Armed Forces Night at D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew
Date: Saturday, September 19, 7 p.m.  
Location: RFK Stadium 
Details: Discounted and donated tickets to Armed Forces members and veterans as well as multiple events throughout the day with post-match fireworks.
