DMV Round Up: July 7, 2014

Last week was a good one for DMV soccer.  The Washington Spirit faced Boston on Wednesday July 2, earning a 3-3 tie at home. The Richmond Kickers played Real Salt Lake Reserves to a 0-0 tie at City Stadium. Additionally, United's U-23s finished the NPSL season undefeated and are the Mid Atlantic Conference Champions. The playoff seeds will be announced this week.

Washington Spirit
The Spirit went down 2-0 early to the Breakers at home, but a Jodie Taylor goal started the come back. Just before halftime, Boston notched another, making it 3-1 heading into the second half. The Spirit continued to fight back; Taylor found her second in the 56th minute on a rebound from Christine Narin's shot attempt.

After a weather delay, play resumed and Boston's Maddy Evans received a straight red, and the Breaks fought on with 10 men. In the 91st minute, Taylor was taken down in the box, and Diana Matheson put away the penalty kick. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Richmond Kickers
D.C. United's Joe Willis and Conor Shanosky started the match for the Kickers against RSL Reserves, helping the USL PRO side earn a point at home. Richmond is currently in second place in USL PRO standings, only behind Orlando City SC. The Kickers host Sacramento Republic FC at City Stadium on July 12 at 7 p.m.
