DMV Roundup: June 10, 2014

While D.C. United was battling the Columbus Crew at FedExField, the Kickers and Spirit were hard at work in Richmond and Chicago, respectively.

Richmond Kickers
United's USL PRO Affiliate defended its home turf on Saturday, besting the Harrisburg City Islanders 1-0. Matthew Delicâte found the back of the net for the Kickers in the 9th minute, and Richmond held on through the final whistle. Delicâte, along with George Davis, now leads the squad with seven goals on the year.

The Kickers have another home game this Saturday, June 14 as Wilmington Hammerheads FC visit City Stadium.

Washington Spirit
The Spirit was back in action on June 4 in Chicago. Washington defeated the Red Stars 1-0, courtesy of another Jodie Taylor goal. The teams battled hard, but it was the Spirit who tallied first in the 77th minute when Diana Matheson’s shot was blocked and Taylor put away the rebound. Chicago couldn’t find an answer, and Washington’s record improved to 6-4-1.

The Spirit plays again tonight at Harvard Stadium against the Boston Breakers, a side it beat 3-2 on June 1.
