Dwayne De Rosario is currently tied with Frederic Piquionne of the Portland Timbers for most goals in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (5). In the fourth-round, the Black-and-Red captain scored a hat-trick against the Philadelphia Union, followed by the game-winning goals against the New England Revolution in the quarterfinals and the Chicago Fire in the semifinals. In fact, no one has scored more than six goals in a single Open Cup tournament in the Modern Pro Era.

Following United’s 2-0 semifinal win vs. the Chicago Fire on Aug. 7, the club moved into first place for most goals (83) by an MLS team in the domestic tournament.

If D.C. United takes home the U.S. Open Cup trophy, the team will have claimed its 30th victory in the tournament all-time. This mark would tie Seattle Sounders FC for second-most among MLS teams. The Black-and-Red’s all-time record as of now stands at 29-10-4.
Open Cup History
This will be the Black-and-Red’s fifth U.S. Open Cup Final appearance, splitting the previous meetings with a 2-2 record. This is the team’s first final since 2009 where Sounders FC defeated United, 2-1. The only team that has reached more Open Cup finals is the Chicago Fire, with six appearances. The Black-and-Red has previously lifted the Open Cup trophy in 1996 and 2008.
