D.C. United

& Justin Mapp
D.C. United selected Justin Mapp with the fourth overall pick of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft after Mapp signed as a Project-40 player. He spent the 2002 MLS season with the Black-and-Red, making three appearances for the club and becoming the then fifth-youngest player in MLS history when he made his debut on 7/24/02 against the Columbus Crew.


& Troy Perkins
Troy Perkins spent four seasons with D.C. United from 2004-2007 after being signed to a developmental contract having gone undrafted in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. In that period, Perkins made 77 starts and kept 19 shutouts. He then returned to the club on 1/13/10 from Norwegian side Valarenga and went on to start 22 games of the 2010 MLS season, recording five shutouts.


Nick DeLeon

& Jeb Brovsky
Nick DeLeon’s Louisville Cardinals faced Jeb Brovsky and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on two occasions while the players were representing their respective schools. The pair first played on 10/16/10, with DeLeon scoring as the Cardinals won 2-0. That same year, on 11/12/10 in the Big East semifinals, Louisville won again by a margin of 1-0. Both players started both games.


& Paolo DelPiccolo
Nick DeLeon and Paolo DelPiccolo played together at the University of Louisville for two seasons from 2010 to 2011, helping the team reach the 2010 College Cup final and the 2011 College Cup quarterfinals. In that time, DeLeon played and started 46 games, scored 14 goals and added nine assists. DelPiccolo played 47 games (46 starts), scored twice and notched 12 assists.

Taylor Kemp and Paolo DelPiccolo were opponents on three occasions during their college careers, Kemp playing for Maryland and DelPiccolo with Louisville. The Cardinals won the first match on 11/27/11 by a score of 4-2, but Maryland would avenge the loss on 8/26/12 with a 3-0 win. The pair faced off for the final time on 12/1/12 in the College Cup quarterfinals, a game in which Maryland would win 3-1, with Kemp logging an assist. Both players started all games.

Taylor Kemp and the Maryland Terrapins faced Andrew Wenger and the Duke University Blue Devils on three occasions. Their first game against one another (with Kemp’s D.C. United teammate Ethan White) was on 10/2/09, in a game won 2-0 by Wenger and his Duke side. The following year, Kemp (and D.C. United teammates Ethan White and Casey Townsend) faced Wenger again on 10/1/10, this time Maryland prevailed 2-0. Finally, Kemp (and Townsend) faced Duke again on 11/14/11 and were again victorious by a final score of 4-2. Both players started all games.

& Paolo DelPiccolo
Perry Kitchen’s (and teammate Chris Korb’s) University of Akron Zips faced Paolo DelPiccolo (along with D.C. United midfielder Nick DeLeon) and the Louisville Cardinals in the 2010 College Cup final on 12/12/10. All players started the game that was won by the Zips, 1-0.


& Zarek Valentin
In his lone season for the University of Akron in 2010, Perry Kitchen (along with teammate Chris Korb) played alongside Zarek Valentin as the Zips won the 2010 College Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Louisville in the tournament final. Both players started all 25 games for Akron that year, with Kitchen scoring six goals and adding an assist while Valentin added an assist of his own.

Chris Korb (along with the Montreal Impact’s Evan Bush) and the Akron Zips faced Jeb Brovsky’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish on one occasion during their college career on 8/29/08. The game finished in a 3-0 win for Akron, with both players starting the game.


& Evan Bush
Chris Korb and Evan Bush were teammates at the University of Akron for the 2008 NCAA season, Korb’s first year with the Zips after transferring from Xavier University. That season, both players started all 23 games the Zips played, with Korb scoring once and notching an assist. Bush, meanwhile, conceded just 11 goals all season and kept 13 shutouts as the Zips’ goalkeeper.


& Paolo DelPiccolo
Chris Korb’s (and teammate Perry Kitchen’s) University of Akron Zips faced Paolo DelPiccolo (along with D.C. United midfielder Nick DeLeon) and the Louisville Cardinals in the 2010 College Cup final on 12/12/10. All players started the game that was won by the Zips, 1-0.


& Zarek Valentin
Chris Korb spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons playing alongside Zarek Valentin for the University of Akron, leading the Zips to back-to-back College Cup finals during that time, losing 3-2 on penalties to Virginia in 2009 and beating Louisville 1-0 in 2010. In that period, both players started 50 games for the Zips, with Korb notching one goal and 10 assists and Valentin adding an assist of his own.


Sainey Nyassi

& Sanna Nyassi
Twin brothers Sainey and Sanna Nyassi began their careers together in their native country of Gambia, playing with local side Gambia Ports Authority. Sainey was the first to move to MLS, signing for the New England Revolution on 8/31/07. He was followed a year later by Sanna, who joined Seattle Sounders FC on 9/6/08. The brothers have represented their country at various youth levels and both made their debuts for the senior side in 2010.


Chris Pontius

& Evan Bush
Chris Pontius’ University of California-Santa Barbara (UCSB) Gauchos and Evan Bush’s Akron Zips met on one occasion during their college careers. The game, played on 8/25/06, was the 2006 NCAA season opener and finished in a 5-0 win for UCSB. Both players started the game, with Pontius setting up the opening goal for Tino Nunez.


James Riley

James Riley and Sanna Nyassi were teammates together with Seattle Sounders FC from 2009-2010 after Riley was selected eighth by the club in the 2008 MLS Expansion Draft. In that period, Riley made 55 appearances (54 starts), scored once and notched seven assists. Nyassi played in 38 games (16 starts), scored two goals and added three assists.


Carlos Ruiz

& Justin Mapp
Carlos Ruiz and Justin Mapp played together at the Philadelphia Union in 2011 after Ruiz signed for the club on 2/22/11 as he returned from a spell in Europe. That year, Ruiz played 14 games (13 starts) and tallied six goals. Mapp made 29 appearances (24 starts), scored three goals and notched four assists.


Luis Silva

& Andrew Wenger
Luis Silva and Andrew Wenger were opponents twice while Silva was playing for the University of California-Santa Barbara (UCSB) and Wenger represented the Duke Blue Devils. The first game, played on 10/15/10, finished in a 2-0 win for UCSB, with Wenger starting the game and Silva coming on as a substitute. The pair met again on 9/2/11 in a game both players started, with UCSB prevailing again by a score of 3-2, seeing Silva score a penalty and Wenger netting an 86th-minute equalizer.

John Thorrington and Jeb Brovsky spent the 2011 season together at Vancouver Whitecaps FC after Thorrington was signed by the club in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft with the 20th overall pick and Brovsky was selected in the second round (19th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. That year, Thorrington made 11 appearances (nine starts), while Brovsky played in 24 games (16 starts) and notched an assist.


& Justin Mapp
John Thorrington and Justin Mapp were teammates from 2005-2010 with the Chicago Fire after Thorrington returned state-side after a stint with Grimsby Town (ENG). During that period, Thorrington made 59 appearances (49 starts), scored eight goals and added two assists. Mapp made 129 appearances (103 starts), tallied eight goals and added 29 assists.


Casey Townsend

& Paolo DelPiccolo
Casey Townsend (alongside teammate Taylor Kemp) and the Maryland Terrapins met Paolo DelPiccolo’s (and D.C. United midfielder Nick DeLeon’s) Louisville Cardinals on 11/27/11. Louisville would go on to win the match 4-2, with Townsend netting the first of Maryland’s goals.

Casey Townsend’s Maryland Terrapins faced Andrew Wenger’s Duke Blue Devils on two occasions during their college careers. The first match on 10/1/10, Townsend’s (and teammates Taylor Kemp and Ethan White’s) Maryland side claimed a 2-0 victory of Wenger’s Blue Devils. Townsend (and Kemp) faced Duke again on 11/14/11, again Maryland was victorious by a final score of 4-2, as Townsend logged two assists in the match. Both players started both games.

Ethan White’s Maryland Terrapins faced Andrew Wenger’s Duke Blue Devils on two occasions during their college careers. In their first meeting on 10/2/09, White’s (and teammate Taylor Kemp’s) Terps went down 2-0 to Wenger and the Blue Devils. In the next match on 10/1/10, White (and teammates Taylor Kemp and Casey Townsend) beat Wenger’s Duke side 2-0.

Joe Willis’ University of Denver Pioneers and Blake Smith’s University of New Mexico Lobos met on three occasions while representing their respective schools. The pair first met on 11/13/09, with New Mexico getting a 1-0 win in a game that Willis started and Smith entered as a substitute. The players met again on 10/8/10, with Denver winning that match by a score of 1-0, Willis securing a shutout. The teams then played just six days later on 10/14/10, with New Mexico taking a 1-0 victory.
