United continues to dig deep, this time at home versus the Portland Timbers. Despite the loss, a few standout performances were a highlight on the night.
D.C. United made 17 attempts at the Timber's goal, forcing Donovan Ricketts and his defense to react quickly to the onslaught. The 17 attempts came from six members of the squad, including Ethan White, Kyle Porter, Perry Kitchen, Chris Pontius, Carlos Ruiz, and Lionard Pajoy.
For his part, Kyle Porter made 7 attempts at goal. The midfielder, who opened his MLS scoring account just six days ago against Sporting KC is stepping up when he can and taking opportunities as they arise.
Saturday was United for D.C. Night at RFK. Events in and around the stadium were centered around raising awareness for the Black-and-Red's charitable arm. Each year, through United Soccer Club, United for D.C. provides skills and an outlet for over 700 youth in underserved communities. As a free after-school program, USC teaches soccer fundamentals while emphasizing life skills and healthy lifestyles.
