Through its United Drives program, D.C. United collects items at select home games to benefit non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. During the month of April, D.C. United will collect pet supplies, which will benefit rescued animals at the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL). Non-latex items like dog and cat toys, dog and cat bowls, crates, beds, food and other items will be collected on Sunday, April 21 when D.C. United hosts rival Philadelphia Union.
"D.C. United has found a wonderful partner with the Washington Animal Rescue League,” said Aprile Pritchet, D.C. United Director of Community Relations. “We look forward to a lasting relationship with the organization and look forward to assisting with their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals who have nowhere else to go."
“We are extremely proud and grateful to D.C. United for naming us a beneficiary of the United Drives campaign,” said Bob Ramin, Washington Animal Rescue League CEO. “Pet supplies and food donated on Sunday, April 21st will help us assist Washington, D.C. families in caring for their companion pets. We truly appreciate this opportunity and we’re looking forward to seeing a large number of Washington Animal Rescue League supporters at the game.”
The United Drives booth is located outside of RFK Stadium’s Gate A and will open an hour and a half prior to kickoff, closing 15 minutes into the first half. Any fan that donates an item will receive a “Buy One, Get One Free” ticket voucher good for any D.C. United regular season home game as well as a United promotional item, as a thank you from the club. Donations are accepted in the D.C. United offices on game and non-game days, located on the fourth floor of Gate A.
As a D.C. United signature program, United Drives assigns a different charity drive for each month of the MLS regular season, including the collection of food, children’s books, and soccer equipment.
