Dwayne De Rosario named to 2011 MLS Best XI

D.C. United announced today that Dwayne De Rosario has been named to the 2011 MLSBest XI side. The selection marks the Canadian international’s sixth Best XIhonor, having been named to the team in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. 


De Rosario compiled his finest statistical campaign in 2011, capturing the BudweiserGolden Boot with a career-high 16 goals. The forward started 31 of 33 matchesplayed this season, registering 12 assists in 2,781 minutes of action. Sincearriving in Washington on June 27, De Rosario was United’s most impactfulplayer, helping the Black-and-Red surge towards the MLS Cup Playoffs until thefinal week of the regular season. In 18 games in a United uniform (17 starts),De Rosario recorded 13 goals and seven assists.


Theattacking midfielder recently won a bevy of D.C. United club honors, includingthe 2011 Volkswagen Most Valuable PlayerAward, Volkswagen Fans’ Choice Award, Volkswagen Goal of the Year and theclub’s Golden Boot.

DeRosario is currently away on international duty for two upcoming CONCACAFmatches of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying. The Canadian National Team will faceSt. Kitts and Nevis in back-to-back matches on November 11 at Warner ParkFootball Stadium in Basseterre, and on November 15 at BMO Field in Toronto. 


Inaddition to his many MLS accolades, De Rosario is also Canada’s current leadingscorer with 18 goals. He is two tallies away from becoming his nation’sall-time leading scorer.
