Maryland State Cup Review: Winnowing down to final contenders

The Maryland State Cup brackets are dwindling down, and last weekend saw many teams moving forward to the final eight, and for some divisions, the top four in the division.

Last Thursday, Bethesda Eintracht defeated the Calverton Angels 1-0 to move on in the Under-14 girls' division, and the Freestate Wolverines defeated the Westminster Lady Wolves to stay alive in the same bracket. PSCI Baltimore defeated MSC Magic 3-0 to move on to the top four with Eintracht and UPP Rommel's ACE, who defeated the Laurel Wildcats 1-0.

MSC Magic Green defeated the ASA Black Hawks 2-1 to move on to the final four in the U-14 boys' division. Bethesda Blue also moved on after defeating Pachuca U.F.C. 2-1. The Freestate Diplomats blanked the TSC Rockets 2-0, and SAC United Premier defeated FC Frederick 2-0. 

Olney Rangers defeated FC Frederick 2-1 in the U-15 boys' bracket to move on to the final four. The final three teams will be decided after playing this coming weekend.

On the girls' side, SAC United Premier dominated the Freestate Strikers and walked away with an 8-0 win to carry them into the top four. OLNY Cyclones bested the Middletown Knightmares 1-0 in the U-15 division, and Bethesda Freedom blanked the PSCI Eagles 2-0. Baltimore Bays Chelsea will play the Thunder Strikers on Saturday for the final spot.

On Friday, Freestate Fury eliminated the Fruitland Vipers after winning 4-1 in the U-13 girls division. Saturday saw the Bethesda 1860 squad defeating SAC Chaos 2-0. On Sunday, CSC Patuxent Swarm won 1-0 against the WWSC Grey Wolves. The MSC Coyotes Green and TSC Red Storm will play off for the last final-four spot this weekend.

Also on Friday, the MSC Diplomats defeated Penya Barcelonista 8-1, and will move forward in the U-13 boys' division. In other U-13 boys' action, the Bethesda Lions beat Crofton United 4-1 on Saturday, and Baltimore SC Premier won 2-1 against the Potomac Hot Spurs on Sunday. Premier have moved onto the final four in addition to the Lions, and the other two teams will be determined this weekend.

Bethesda Real defeated the Upper Chesapeake SC Falcons 1-0 on Saturday in the U-17 boys' division. Real is joined in the final four by RUSH Nike, who defeated Calverton Barza 7-0, and DCST Blue, who defeated the SSA Rapids 5-0.

In the U-17 girls' division, RUSH Nike defeated the Bethesda Freedom 1-0 on Saturday. They joined Freestate Fury and the Bays U17G in the final four.

In the boys' U-18 division, the Bethesda Internationals, the Bays Blues and SAC Premier have all clinched spots in the final four. On the girls' side, Freestate United, Laurel Premier United and the Bethesda Dragons have all won their way into the top four. Bethesda Riptide and Crofton Wolves play for the final spot this Sunday.

The Bays Blues and Freestate Red Devils have both clinched spots in the final four in the boys' U-16 division after defeating MD Rush Nike 2-0 and MSC United 3-0, respectively. AC Bethesda will play ASA United on Saturday and the Bays Blue Lions will play the Pachuca Green Dragons for the final two spots.

Bethesda Freedom defeated SAC United Premier 2-1 in the U-16 girls' division to move on to the top four, and the Freestate Wolverines shut out SAC United 1 5-0. FC Frederick will play DCST Edge on Saturday, and Freestate Elite will play Baltimore Bays Chelsea on Sunday for the final two spots.
