WAGS Third Weekend Preview

WAGS

The third weekend of WAGS play is upon us, and many teams will go into the weekend hoping for winning results -- not to mention better weather than the league's previous 2011 matchdays.

In High School Division 1, McLean Fusion has already established themselves as the clear leader, with three wins. They play the Crofton Wolves on Saturday and DSC Sparks on Sunday. The Wolves have won one match so far, and the Sparks lost their only game. If the Fusion can win both, it could be hard for anyone to catch up.

Division 2 has Vista Fury and Chantilly FCV Courage tied with two wins each. The Fury have two games this weekend, against Bethesda Riptide on Saturday and the DSC Dragons on Sunday. If they can win both, they will jump into the lead, as the Courage is not playing again until April 30.

Action is heating up in U-14 Division 1, as three teams are tied for first on a win and a tie. Loudoun 96G Red, Bethesda Eintracht, and FREE Storm will need results this weekend to separate themselves from the pack. Loudoun will play the Storm on Sunday, but Eintracht are not playing this weekend.

The field is still wide open in U-13 Division 1, but PWSI Courage Red is leading with five points at the moment after winning one and drawing two. The Courage are not playing this weekend, but SYC FCV is, and if they can win against the powerhouse MSC Coyotes Green team, they will jump into the lead.

With four teams fighting for Division 1 bragging rights in the U-12 age group, Sunday's matches will be hot contests. VSA Heat, who are currently leading the division with seven points, are facing off against Bethesda Academy on Sunday. Loudoun 98G Red, tied for second on six points, will play Stafford Revolution 98 Blue on Sunday as well. The other two squads with six points, Braddock Road Elite and SAC Premier, are off this weekend.

In U-16 Division 3, SAC United I Wolves are playing the Alexandria Titans in the only match of the division on Sunday. The Wolves are looking to remain undefeated in league play.

In U-16 Division 4, SMU Storm and VSA Heat Gold are currently tied at the top with two wins each. Both squads play on Sunday, with Heat Gold taking on SYC Spirit, and the Storm playing against SSA Moxie.

In U-15 Division 3, Herndon Curve are two for two coming into this weekend, and another win against the FSC Inferno on Sunday will give them a commanding lead in the division.
