We just got word from General Manager Dave Kasper that the team just acquired defender Mamadou Danso via the waiver ranking order (though, we're not sure what that means).  He left college early to sign with MLS.

Said Kasper of Danso:  "We are pleased to have obtained Mamadou from the MLS waiver process.  He is a strong central defender with a big, physical presence and we look forward to giving him an opportunity to earn a spot with D.C. United."

Danso is a natural center back, but played forward last year at Southern Polytechnic University (in Georgia) and did pretty well while there, scoring 19 goals and notching six assists.

Said his head coach Kom Momeni:  "He has always been very reluctant to play as a forward, as his natural position is a center back.  He will be a professional in that position.  He never felt comfortable as a Forward. He just did it because it was best for the team."

After being named the 2008 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Player of the Year, Offensive Player of Year, First Team Selection ('07 and '08) and Newcomer of the Year ('07), Danso was honored by the NAIA as a member of the 2008 All-America Honorable Mention Team.
