What's the deal with... stoppages of play after Jaime Moreno scores?

What's the deal with... stoppages of play after Jaime Moreno scores? - 052408_Moreno_TFC.jpg

With five goals on the season, Jaime Moreno continues to set the League goal-scoring mark with each tally.  At 34 years of age and with 117 total MLS goals, Moreno shows no sign of slowing down.  You may have noticed that after each Moreno goal, the referee stops play so that the ball can be removed from the field for safe-keeping.  Each goal creates it's own bit of history and United fans can now be a part of that history.  After each Moreno score, the game ball is removed from play, to be auctioned in conjunction with the United for D.C. Man of the Match auctions

The ball used for Moreno's 116th goal is now up for bid (bid soon, the auction ends tomorrow!), alongside the Man of the Match jersey worn by Fred in New England on May 29 and a player escort package for the June 29 match against Los Angeles.

All proceeds raised through these auctions benefit worthy United for D.C. programs such as United Reads, Kicks for Kids and United Soccer Club.  Another fundraiser, the Seventh Annual United for D.C. Celebrity Golf Tournament is set to be played Monday, June 23.  Space is limited, but available.  Click here to sign up to play.
