The U.S. National U-17 team won against Guatemala 3-0 to clinch the top seed in Group F at the 2019 Concacaf Championship. The victory means that the USA will face Guadeloupe in the round of 16 on Thursday, May 9 at 6 PM ET.
D.C. United had two academy products featured in the starting XI, Griffin Yow and Bryang Kayo. Unitedās Griffin Yow had an impressive performance in Bradenton, Fla. The youngster's offensive IQ and finishing instinct were on display as he bagged a brace during the match.
In the 25th minute, Guatemala initially cleared a freekick from the U.S. and the ball fell to Mauricio Cuevas on the outside of the penalty box. Cuevas feathered a pass to Yow on the right wing who then created space and shot the ball low and to the keeperās right for the games opening goal.
In the second half, Yow collected his second goal of the game in the 51st. Gio Reyna used his agility and offensive awareness to cut inside from the left wing. Reyna played a cross into the box towards the near post and Yow found the end of the pass with a clean finish, to take a 2-0 nothing over Guatemala.
The USA went on to win the game 3-0 after a late finish from Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez buried one in the 86th minute of the match. The Red-White-and-Blue finished on top of their group with a perfect record of 3-0-0 and a +8 goal differential. Yow will remain on the USMNT to see out the 2019 U-17 Concacaf championship. The next game for Yow and Kayo will take place on Thursday, May 9 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
