Reserve League match postponed, VW Ride & Drive continues at 1pm

D.C. United's Reserve League match scheduled for Sunday, August 5, at 11am has been postponed due to the tragic news out of Columbus that Crew rookie midfielder Kirk Urso passed away Saturday night.


The Crew front office issued the following statement early Sunday morning: "While the circumstances of Urso’s passing are still being determined, no further comments will be made at this time. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Columbus Crew and Hunt Sports Group are with the Urso family in this time of need."


The 22-year-old had been recovering from right adductor tendonitis and was not part of the squad that traveled to Washington, DC.


D.C. United issued the following statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Kirk Urso and the entire Columbus Crew organization."


The VW Ride & Drive, schedule for Sunday, August 5 at 1pm will take place as originally planned with members of the D.C. United first team. Several players will also practice on the RFK Stadium Training Field from approximately 10am-11am. The training session will be open and free to the public for any fans who were planning to attend the reserve match.
