Playoffs

Q&A: Ben Olsen

Ben Olsen at Training

Your goal was Playoffs, now what?
There’s a whole new mood around here. They’ve been through this before, they understand the intensity and mentality it takes to have success. I can see it, in one day, the mindset is different.

How do you prepare without knowing the opponent?
At this point in the season, you’re pretty familiar with all the teams, in particular the ones in the East. We’ll set up for both teams this week. We’ll be prepared, once that game is over, to hone in on one team or the other. In the mean time, it’s about getting ourselves right and the mentality right. Fixing some of the things that we’d like to ramp up.

Do you care which opponent you have?
Nope.

Having been there before, how much more intense are Playoff matches?
Obviously teams are more revved up during the Playoffs. There have been a few meaningful games here, leading up to the Playoffs, which should have us prepared.

Are you doing anything different with the young guys to get them prepared?
We're not doing things different. For us, it’s still about continuing with what we’ve been doing all year. Preparing for teams the right way, making sure we have the right mentality.

What are you looking forward to most about November 8 and playing in front of our fans?
I’m excited for them to have a playoff game here, at RFK. I know how much it means to them to see us play in big games. I know they’ll get this place rocking and give us the edge.

With all the LA and Seattle talk, do you feel like an underdog heading into Playoffs?
No, that’s ok. Talk away. This team, they don’t need a lot of press and a lot of pats on the back. We’ve been hungry all year. We know who we are, we know what we’re about, and we know the job we need to do.
