D.C. United will host La Liga side Real Betis for a mid-season friendly game at Audi Field on May 22, 2019. This will be the first meeting between the two teams and will mark the first time Real Betis will play a friendly in the United States.
D.C. United are 2-2-1 in their last five matches. The Black-and-Red have enjoyed a strong start to the 2019 MLS season as they currently are tied with the Philadelphia Union for first place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-4-2 record. Wayne Rooney has continued his good form since joining D.C. United in the middle of the 2018 season as he has scored seven goals and provided four assists through 13 appearances.
D.C. United will look to bounce back after a tough two-game road trip which saw them draw 0-0 against Toronto FC on May 15 and lose 2-1 to the Houston Dynamo on May 18. Bill Hamid recorded a career-high 12 saves in the game against Toronto to help the Black-and-Red secure their seventh clean sheet this season. In the match against Houston, Wayne Rooney scored the opening goal in the 46th minute before the Dynamo fired back with two goals quick goals to give Dynamo the victory.
Real Betis are 2-2-1 in their last five matches. The Spanish side just finished the 2018/19 La Liga season in tenth place with a record of 14-8-16. In their final match of the season on May 19, Real Betis defeated Spanish giants Real Madrid 2-0. The match was in a deadlock until Loren Moron opened the scoring in the 61st minute. His teammate Jese Rodríguez would score in the 75th minute to give Real Betis the victory. It was the 25th time in Real Betis' long history that they have managed to defeat Real Madrid.
