Pre-match measurement of the New England Revolution

Chris Pontius Tale

In boxing, the tale of the tape is the pre-fight measurements between the two combatants. In 2013, we're telling the tale of the tape between D.C. United and its foe of the week.

Nerves of Steel

D.C. United owns a record of 3-2 when its U.S. Open Cup games go to a penalty shootout. Its latest win on penalty kicks came on 5/28 in the Third Round of this year’s competition against USL PRO affiliates the Richmond Kickers thanks to a pair of saves from goalkeeper Joe Willis.

Strong Home Record

D.C. United has won the most home games by MLS teams in the history of the U.S. Open Cup, winning 29 times, including the 3-1 victory over Philadelphia on 6/12 in the Fourth Round of this year’s competition. The Chicago Fire (20) has won the second-most among MLS franchises in the Open Cup.

Winning Record

D.C. United has won the second-most number of games among MLS teams in the Open Cup, earning victory 34 times. Potential semi-final opponents the Chicago Fire has won the most (35).

Poor Scoring Form in USOC

Of MLS teams having played at least 25 games in the U.S. Open Cup since the League was formed in 1996, only the Colorado Rapids (32) and the San Jose Earthquakes (45) have scored less cup goals all-time than the New England Revolution (56).

Active Scorers v. the Revolution

D.C. United striker Carlos Ruiz has scored the most MLS goals against New England among active players, notching 11 against the Revs. Dwayne De Rosario is in joint-second place with eight goals alongside Brian Ching.
