D.C. United came from behind in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw against CF Montréal on Saturday night at Stade Saputo, extending the club's unbeaten run to six matches. The point moves the Black-and-Red to 24 points and a 5-5-9 record on the season.
Head Coach René Weiler handed midfielder Kimito Nono his D.C. United debut in the starting XI, while goalkeeper Sean Johnson made his 450th appearance in Major League Soccer. The Black-and-Red pushed early, with forward Tai Baribo heading a Keisuke Kurokawa cross wide in the fourth minute and forward Louis Munteanu forcing a save out of CF Montréal goalkeeper Thomas Gillier from outside the box in the 11th. Johnson answered at the other end, denying forward Prince Owusu from the center of the box in the 17th minute, and the two sides went into the break level at 0-0.
CF Montréal broke the deadlock shortly after the restart. Defender Keisuke Kurokawa was penalized for a handball in the area in the 47th minute following a VAR review, and Owusu stepped up to convert from the spot in the 50th minute to put the hosts ahead.
The Black-and-Red drew level in the 66th minute. Nono delivered a cross from the right and Baribo rose to head home from the right side of the six-yard box, marking his 12th goal of the 2026 season and his fifth in five consecutive matches. The assist was Nono's first contribution in a D.C. United shirt.
CF Montréal pressed for a winner over the closing half hour, and Johnson was equal to everything that came his way, turning aside efforts from midfielder Hennadii Synchuk in the 78th minute, forward Daniel Ríos in the 80th and defender Brayan Vera in the 89th. Midfielder Andre Dozzell went close for D.C. United from outside the box in the 83rd minute, and the hosts came nearest to a late winner when substitute Olger Escobar struck the left post in second-half stoppage time. The Black-and-Red saw out the remaining minutes to secure the point.
D.C. United return to action on Wednesday, August 19 when the Black-and-Red host the New England Revolution at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
