Match Recap

D.C. United fell 4-1 to Orlando City SC on Saturday night at Inter.co Stadium despite outshooting the hosts 16-14.  Head Coach René Weiler made three changes to the starting XI following the team’s win over Red Bull New York. Defender Sean Nealis stepped in for captain Lucas Bartlett, who served a one-match suspension following a red card. Midfielder João Peglow returned to the starting lineup after starting the last match on the bench while midfielder Jared Stroud made his first start since May 23 against CF Montréal.  Orlando opened the scoring in the 15th minute through forward Antoine Griezmann, who was assisted by midfielder Martín Ojeda. Ojeda doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 22nd minute to give Orlando a 2-0 lead.  D.C. United responded just before halftime when forward Tai Baribo converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal was Baribo’s team-leading 16th of the MLS season, putting him just one goal shy of his total from last season.  Orlando City SC added two more goals in the second half to secure a 4-1 victory. Despite generating opportunities and finishing with more shots than the hosts, the Black-and-Red were unable to capitalize on their chances.  With the result, D.C. United sit 12th in the Eastern Conference with 33 points. The Black-and-Red will look to bounce back on Wednesday, October 21, when they travel to Ohio to face FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium.
